Loved, admired and supported by so many, Achim Boehme was the inspirational CEO of Lomar between 2010-2020. He tragically lost a brave, year-long battle with cancer in July 2020.

As a man with great energy, warmth, integrity, talent and leadership qualities, Achim’s wonderful legacy to Lomar and to our shipping industry will live on.

Our scholarships

The Achim Boehme Scholarship programme now supports the next generation of seafarers and shipping professionals. Honouring the life and legacy of a great leader and innovator, it enshrines his lifelong contribution to the shipping industry as well as to Lomar, by helping to educate and develop the leaders of tomorrow.

Always supportive of new recruits, Achim was a great mentor and teacher to others and his legacy is being carried forward by helping shipping students at Hochschule Bremen - City University of Applied Sciences in his home city of Bremen, Germany. Achim had a close affinity with the university and the scholarship is dedicated to students taking degree programs in International Ship Management - Nautical Sciences B.Sc. (ISMN) and International Shipping and Chartering B.A. (ISSC). More information about the scholarship is available by clicking here and for those wishing to make contributions to the Achim Boehme Scholarship contact us at AchimBoehmeScholarship@lomarshipping.com

The second annual recipients of grants from the Achim Boehme Scholarship, some of whom are photographed below, are undergraduate students: Kelly O'Grady from USA, Gonzalo E. Vallejo Moller from Venezuela, Michael Rhenzo Pasion from Philippines, Francisco dos Santos Portela from Portugal, Surendra Solanki from India, Zakri Soufiane from Morocco, Bruno Molina Stagi from Uruguay, Hanife Ucar from Turkey, and Moritz Wottrich from Germany.

On the 150th of the Carl Büttner company in 2006, it also began offering scholarships to students at the Bremen and Bremerhaven Universities of Applied Sciences.

Memorial

The Achim Boehme Peace Veranda has been established at the William Jefferson Clinton Center for Peace & Technology, in Washington DC.  A non-partisan, independent institute, founded by US Congress, The United States Institute of Peace (www.usip.org) is dedicated to the proposition that a world without violent conflict is possible, practical and essential for the U.S. and for global security.

Located on the second floor, the beautiful Achim Boehme Peace Veranda (pictured below) overlooks USIP's headquarters building and provides a peaceful area for reflection by visitors and its staff. It is visible from the main entrance and to all who enter the facility. The veranda honours a great commercial leader – a kind man who motivated and charmed everyone he met, no matter their role or level of seniority, and for whom peace was a core value.

We can think of no better or lasting honour than naming this tranquil space after Achim and hope it will inspire peace among communities worldwide in decades to come.
