ACHIM BOEHME 1963-2020

Jul 2020

It is with immense sadness that Lomar Shipping confirms that its Chief Executive Officer, Achim Boehme, died peacefully on Saturday 25th July 2020 at his home in Bremen, Germany, surrounded by his loving family. He was aged 56 and for the past year had been waging a brave battle with cancer, supported by his wife Helke and four children.

Nicholas Georgiou, Chief Operating Officer of Lomar, said: “We are absolutely devastated to confirm this news and offer our deepest sympathy to his devoted family. Our colleagues at Lomar and our parent company, the Libra Group, will miss his immense wisdom, his charm and his ever-present dry wit. Achim’s passing leaves a massive void among all of us who knew and worked with him. The global shipping industry has lost a great leader and innovator who still had so very much to give.”

Achim joined Lomar’s management team as Chief Financial Officer in early 2010. Promoted to CEO that same year, he had overall responsibility for the company’s management, strategy and development. He was also General Manager of Lomar Deutschland/Germany.

He brought many years of senior experience in maritime transport, ship finance and maritime law, having studied law and economics at Münster, Freiburg and Speyer (postgraduate) universities, before working in a barrister’s chambers and German shipping law firms.

Achim later became shipping specialist at Hamburgische Landesbank before joining Deutsche Schiffsbank, then one of the world’s leading ship finance banks, as Deputy General Manager and Head of Greek Shipping. During his banking career Achim carried out numerous ship finance transactions and had been involved in many landmark deals in international and Greek shipping.
